United States Mint Gold Buffalo
The American Gold Buffalo coin is the first .9999 fine gold coin issued by the United States Mint. The hefty gold coin was first struck in 2008 and has become one of the most popular annual issues for the Mint. The coin stylized after the Indian Head or Buffalo Nickel was issued from 1913 to 1938. The original nickel was designed by James Earl Fraser modeling after three different Native American Chiefs. The bison was sculpted after “Black Diamond” who resided in the New York Central Park Zoo.
